Leo Klus
The most creative and beautiful premium bible I have ever owned

Background: This review will only be interesting to people who know any of the following: Mark Bertrand, Allan/Schuyler/Cambridge/Crossway, Evangelicalbible.com. My premium bible journey since 2012 went as follows (goatskin mostly): Pitt Minion ESV, Clarion ESV, Quentel ESV, Crossway Preachers ESVAllan ref. ESV, Allan ref. NIV. The result? My 2 Allans are my working bibles and my favourite BY FAR of those. A dozen reasons. In a search to add a NASB (preferably 2020) I spent a year looking.

Then I came across Humble Lamb. Their collection is unique. Each translation has a different purpose and thus, different size, layout and feel. That's where their NASB 2020 HIStory blew my mind. It's handy sized, thick and easy to hold. The Fox Orange Goatskin is tremendous. Then the layout. To this point even though the Allan NIV is often overlooked by us ESV guys, the UK layout is unlike anything I've seen and is such a pleasure to look at and read. So when I say that the Humble Lamb NASB layout is a pleasure it's an understatement. It has all the references and translator notes you'd want. But the unique approach of font choice, Blue headers, a creative drop cap/illuminated initial-each one slightly different (giving it an old world feel) and the complete collection of the iconic Gustav Dore drawings throughout (250+?): you've got a bible that has modern layout choices (font, color, single column) with historic touches (drop caps, Dore images). I can't take my eyes off it. This will be the only premium bible I don't highlight or mark up (which I do carefully to aid my ministry work with my Allan bibles).

Before arrival, I was worried that the small block size and thick book would be awkward compared to my Allans. But this bible lays flat on my desk. In fact way better than my clarion did. The paper gsm is far superior-no curling, hardly any ghosting. The font size is large enough with a font that makes it feel larger than it is. I found the words of Christ in subtle blue to be fascinating as I don't prefer red letter editions unless the red is subtle crimson; and here the blue is subtle and non distracting yet enjoyable.

This is the type of bible one feels like you need to grab before it's all sold out. With so many premium bible companies (ie. Allan) you often wait years to find out when the bible translation and format/size you want is produced. So I had to have this now (a gift).

And this is important. The customer service of Humble Lamb is 2nd to none. It's why I prefer the smaller company who pays attention to customer communication. For those NASB lovers who are concerned that this came out in a 2020 edition I'd just say this. I have my seminary 1995 still at my desk. It serves its purpose. But with this bible as I've spent time in it I find it has some of the best things I like about the ESV, the 1995 and the NIV. So yes-this is a NASB I will do devotions in and find it smooth, enjoyable and the format-uniqueness of this edition keeps drawing me to pick up and read.

Final thought. I normally prefer conservative colours. Black, Rich Red. Dark blue. Because those colours were sold out I had the choice of Orange and Yellow. I bought the orange and then worried that I'd hate it when I unboxed it. Nope. It's surprisingly tasteful-not gaudy like a cheap paint but the burnt orange feel looks great.

As you can tell I'm raving. Humble Lamb hasn't asked me to do this. Im not sure they'll see this review. But holding it now as I am, it feels like a testimony of my entire journey with premium bibles. It's my last one. I need no more. It's not cheap-but I can see why as I've meticulously evaluated every aspect of the construction that lies behind it. If you are on the fence, I hope this helped you decide if it's for you. Thanks to the Humble Lamb team.

Cool Size Premium

This is really neat bible! It’s a more compact size than the other HL bibles, but still VERY readable. Same great quality we’ve come to expect from the HL team!

True quality or craftsmanship is hard to find today. The intentionality and commitment to excellence is seen and felt the moment you open the box. I'd overwhelmingly recommend the Humble Lamb History Bible.

Blown away buy the quality

I was looking at other brands of premium bibles but I’m happy I chose the HIStory.
I like the size of it and it’s easy to read. I like the drawing and blue text. I would consider buying another product from humble lamb.
